How to develop truthfulness in children

How to develop truthfulness in children

Kapterev 1901

“Truthfulness is natural, quite accessible to man, very simple and even, taken in itself, absolutely necessary. What is truthfulness? This is the discovery of a person as he really is, without embellishment, without distortion, in accordance with reality; Truthfulness is an expression, to use a logical term, of the identity of a person, a designation of it to the extent of its actual strength. What abilities a person has, what size, what aspirations he has, what strengths and weaknesses, what this person has experienced, what he hopes for, what he expects in the future – he expresses all this, being truthful. For him there is only being and appearing is completely unknown; This is a pure crystal, the nature and structure of which can be studied by every inquisitive and observant researcher. Truthfulness is the direct outpouring of human nature in his characteristic activities.
Each person by nature, but according to his natural aspirations, is truthful, because everyone is what he is; Man learns to contradict himself, put on a mask, distort himself, and call something that is not something that is not.
At first he is truthful, and then he is a deceiver and a liar. A lie is a split, a disharmony in a person. A liar does one thing and says another; asserts that something is true, and at the same time he himself is aware that this something is not true. The state of duality and internal disharmony is not pleasant.
Man by nature is an organically whole being, without cracks, without breaks, he loves the unity of thought and activity, the direction of his forces in one direction. Any hesitation, division, or lie is not in his heart, since such states bring anxiety and confusion into the soul, weaken a person’s strength, forcing him to live a double life: real and imaginary, to do and lie, but you are afraid of exposure. A liar constantly wears a mask, and a good mask requires a lot of work to fit it tightly so that the real face does not peek out from behind it. An inveterate liar is an eternal actor, continuously playing a role without rest.”
