Mahatma Gandhi: Love is the most powerful force the world possesses…

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, known as Mahatma Gandhi, was an Indian lawyer, politician, pacifist, fighter for human freedom and the spiritual leader of the Indian independence movement that led in 1947 to the end of British rule in the country. He is also called “Father of the Nation”.

He was born on October 2, 1869.

On this day, January 30, 1948, he passed away from this world, murdered in Delhi by a religious fanatic.

His messages and deeds advocating for change through peaceful means and non-violent protest have inspired a number of world leaders around the world, including Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi, and others.

It was about him that Albert Einstein said: “It will be difficult for future generations to believe that such a person, of flesh and blood, once walked the earth.”

“Mahatma” translated from Sanskrit means “great soul”, but Gandhi himself said in his autobiography that he never considered himself worthy of such a title.

He has been nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize. The last time was days before his murder, but he never lived to receive it.

In memory of Mahatma Gandhi, we recall some of his precious messages and immortal vows to humanity:

Love is the most powerful force the world possesses, but that doesn’t stop it from being the meekest we can imagine.

To neglect a single living being is to neglect the powers of God and harm not only that being but the whole world.

The seven social sins: politics without principle, wealth without labor, pleasure without conscience, knowledge without character, commerce without morality, science without humanity, and worship without self-sacrifice.

The future depends on what we do now.
