In Japan M7.5

In Japan M7.5

In Japan M7.5. And this is just the beginning

insiderpaper.com:  A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 struck the Noto area in Ishikawa Prefecture around 16:10 (0710 GMT), the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The Japan Meteorological Agency reported a series of 21 earthquakes of magnitude 4.0 or greater that struck the country’s central region in just over 90 minutes.
Tsunami waves 1.2 meters (four feet) high hit the port of Wajima in Ishikawa Prefecture at 16:21 (0721 GMT), about 10 minutes after the strongest tremor, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said.
“All residents should immediately evacuate to higher ground,” national broadcaster NHK said after the quakes.
Dangerous tsunami waves were possible within 300 kilometers (190 miles) of the quake’s epicenter along the coast on the Sea of Japan side of Japan’s main island of Honshu, the Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
However, a much larger tsunami of five meters was expected to hit Noto in the same region, the JMA said.
The Japanese government said it was still assessing how much damage was caused and whether there were any casualties.
About 33,500 households around the epicenter in Toyama, Ishikawa and Niigata prefectures were without power, according to local utilities.
Television reports showed a building on fire in the town of Wajima in Ishikawa, and AFP journalists said houses in central Tokyo were shaking.
A video clip posted on social media platform X showed rows of wooden houses destroyed by earthquakes, with walls and roofs collapsing.
“This is the Matsunami district of Noto City. We are in a terrible situation. Please come and help us. My city is in a terrible situation,” the man heard in the video said.
The island of Sakhalin and Vladivostok in Russia’s Far East were on “alert” over the possible risk of a tsunami following earthquakes in Japan, officials said.
Comment from The Big The One Editors: As far as can be judged from the videos and photographs, M7.5 is most likely an understatement; the magnitude was greater:

Judging by the birdies, today there was a foreshock and the main thing is yet to come. And if you look in retrospect, the most important thing is ahead.
After a series of gamma-ray bursts on December 16, we set the ground zero for December 30, that is, two weeks later. These two weeks have passed.
But then came a package of gamma-ray bursts from the 28th and a package from the 30th, not to mention single bursts. We add 2-3 weeks to these numbers and monitor the development of events.
