Music preferences are linked to moral values and personality traits, researchers say. Music can reflect our moral compass, but the moral compass can also be guided by the music we prefer.
The analysis of the lyrics of favorite songs, as well as their sound characteristics, gives information about a person’s moral compass. The new study used data from more than 1,400 volunteers. Using algorithms and machine learning methods to capture key values that favorite songs convey through text and sound. The stories in the songs, the emotions and moods they give are analyzed.
There are many characteristics found in the songs that correspond to certain character traits. For example, certain elements, such as pitch and timbre, proved to be key indicators of carefulness as well as a sense of justice – people with these qualities were strongest preferred smooth and relaxed music over loud and dynamic sounds. On the other hand, the lyrics, and in particular the feelings and emotions that are expressed through them, are strongly associated with loyalty, authority, and chastity-those who hold on to these qualities prefer lyrics that are related to love and Justice. Loyalty, authority and chastity are also determined by their preference for traditional and Rhythmic Songs.
Although musical preferences are not determinative of character, the genre of music that is preferred may be indicative of certain personality traits. Previous research has found a link between favorite genres of music and certain predominant character traits. For example, those who like rap or hip hop are more sociable and have higher self-esteem. Rock or metal fans have lower self-esteem, high creativity and introversion. Classical music fans are often introverted, but have no problems with self-esteem and self-esteem.
The music we listen to may have something to do with the way the brain works. In previous work, there is a connection between favorite music and the different ways in which we perceive new information and interact with other people. Those who have a more dynamic and emotional way of perceiving life prefer highly emotional music with soft tones. On the other hand, those who prefer structure and systematize their information fall in love with intense, vibrant, energetic music.
Listening to your favorite music, regardless of genre, can also be beneficial for brain function. Listening to music reduces anxiety and improves mood, memory and sleep quality.

P.S. Again at every meal merudia: musical preferences are indicative of the state of the soul. Soft melodic and harmonic preferences indicate a balanced soul. A lot of noise and cacophony indicates extreme mental discomfort – sloppiness in the soul. Joseph Yorgov
