On December 1st the world may go dark

spaceweather.com: On November 28,sunspot AR3500 exploded, causing an M9.8-class solar flare. Only a fraction of a percent separates an explosion from Category X.

NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the event:

A burst of intense ultraviolet radiation knocked out shortwave radio communications in the South Pacific and parts of America. Sailors and radio amateurs may have noticed signal loss at frequencies below ~20 MHz within an hour of the flare.

Of greater interest is CME. The explosion threw a cloud of particles directly towards the Earth. This video from the SOHO coronagraph shows a cloud expanding in our direction at more than 800 km/s (1.8 million mph):

According to NASA’s model, this CME will hit Earth at noon (UT) on December 1st.

Moreover, what’s interesting is that the censors at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory OTK missed this gamma-ray burst and didn’t cut it out, which they’ve been doing for a couple of months now. Apparently it was some kind of important splash.

Tomorrow there will be a magnetic storm and aurors no matter what, we wrote about this yesterday, but we don’t even know what will happen the day after tomorrow, so we are monitoring the developments.
